I have a 69 bus with a 1600. The turnkey rebuilt engine, and muffler have about 500 miles on them. The heater boxes are used, but appear to be in decent shape. Anyway when I pull my heater control levers the air coming out smells VERY strongly of burning paint or a similar smell. I thought it was probably because the muffler/engine/tin were new but the smell still hasn't burned off after 500-600 miles of driving. Is this normal? Will this smell go away on its own or could I have a problem. There's already snow on the ground at my house in northern ny state and it's mighty cold in my bus without usable heat.

Any ideas, Thanks, John

The tube down the center is made of a corrugated paper liner. That's the smell your noise is finding unpleasant. Some busses are stronger than others.

I too would guess it will eventually burn off. You might have some gunk in your heater boxes if they were used.

Thanks for the ideas, I'm going to let it go for now and live without heat for a few hundred more miles to see if it goes away.
