What are the advantages to each? Negatives? From the looks of the A1, a traction bar can not be used. How is the sound, performance, etc.? Any thoughts on other exhausts would be good too... for a '62 Beetle w/ 2017cc.
Thanks. If you are in the southwest, read my signature.

I've got a Berg GB-933S with their dual QP. It had nice thick flanges and fit's like a glove. The mufflers have a nice sound and there's no problem with the rear engine support. The system also allows for the stock lower tin and clears the thermostat.
I decided to try a A1 Magnaflow muffler and purchased one from AC.net. It's a very nice part and did fit, but the traction bar did rub against it. I took it for a 10 mile ride and it was way too loud. When I got home I took it off and put the dual QP back on.
I also like the symetrical and classic look of the dual QPs more.

I have the A1 sidewinder and love it. I can't say enough good things about it. I run a TG Fab brace so dont have a traction bar, but I'm pretty sure soemone said that it would work with it. Call them and ask to find out. The sidewinder did have some clearance issues with my original style thermostat however. |

I have an airspeedparts.com traction bar for sale. You can run whatever exhaust you want with it and not have to worry about clearance issues with it. PM me if your interested.
Oh and I personally like the A-1 line up. _________________ Mike Soliven

Wanna PM me a pic? I need a traction bar since my lowbugget bar don't clear the sidewinder. I can say that the A1 sidewinder fits much better and is quieter than the bugpack merged and phatboy muffler. Much better ground clearance with the sidewinder also. _________________ Proud owner of a super fatty.

Could you please elaborate on the thermostat issue? |

It takes a lot to beat any A-1 system... Those guys have more ongoing development than any exhaust Mfr I have ever dealt with...
I have seen the differences on my dyno and I believe in Tiger's abilities! _________________ Jake Raby

Jake,
Do you know if the sidewinder will work with the Berg traction bar? If so how about the Lowdown?
Thanks for the info. |

I bought a Sidewinder from A-1. Tiger asked me which I wanted on the car - Big tires or a traction bar. I opt'd for the big times and put a Bugpack drag bar on.

tom why you asking all these knuckleheads here?
go talk to my dad he will set you straite.
for whats its worth, berg systems are really nice, tried and true. though A-1 does put out alot of nice products too, lots of people like 'em...i just dont know if they will work with a berg traction bar or not. plus i think your car is just begging for a berg merged header with old school dual muffs...gotta keep the classic cal-look style going. |

That made me laugh!
I know, I know.... I try not to pest him. I have been bored all day, recovering from a little surgery (nose) since I can't leave the house I just started typing. The Samba = a cure for boredom. Can't work on the car so I'll just talk about it. I will visit Steve this week. |
