I think he was driving in the snow or freezing rain. Other than that, only God and a few scientists know. |

There was a picture taken like that from either the 05 or 06 Shasta Snow trip, I'm pretty sure. |

It looks like he jammed a huge magnet into the hubcap and drove around after coating it with iron filings. |

I think he lived in New York/Conn. area when he owned the bus. The Shasta area isn't out of the question either, but I don't remember having a bus in Oregon when I was a toddler. |

I've lived in Connecticut for 36 years, and I've never seen anything like that. I have had my nose frozen almost shut from delivering papers in -40 degrees windchill, but I've never seen anything close to that. |

That was on the trip intended to be to Bulli Briagde that ended up being to Michigan and back to WA in November 2005. (That trip gave me serious Eberspacher envy.) The hubcap sea urchins showed up after driving through freezing slush on the freeway. The 55 had 'subfloors' of ice going through Idaho, and the wheel arches were also packed with ice.

This must be some sort of phenomenum that only happens to splitty owners. A very unigue group deserves special moments like this. I don't have the priviledge to own one but get to ride in my bro's westy from time to time. There is nothing else like it sitting on the front wheels with little holes to stick your head out and wave at other VWs. Hopefully somewhere out there, mine is cozy in a barn, waiting until I can come and resurrect it. |
