This is where I found it. Bought this and a 71 in Nov 2001 for $200

I freaked out when we drove by and I saw that deluxe trim and corner windows.

When I got it to my parents, I had to shovel about 300 pounds worth of junk and trash out of the cargo box.

The side was crunched with a forklift. I looks like they ran into it with the forks and then lifted
it from the bottom because there is a tear in the cargo floor where the fork came through.

Here it sits beside my 62 Sub Hatch Flipseat Westy

This was the donor for the metal. Even though it is the wrong side I still was able to hack and piece it together to
make the areas I needed to repair the passeger side. And hey, it was only $33.

I bought some doors from a 66 only to learn they had high hinges on 61 down buses. So I cut the hinges out
of the old doors and welded them into the new ones. The stamping on the inside of the door was made for high
and low hinges. Look under your seals if you have low hinge doors and you'll see what I mean. VW must have
just added the low hinge stamp to the old press dies in 1961. Also if you look at the cargo door trim believe it
or not but that is the same trim that came of the crunched doors. I straighented it out.

Here I have cut all the metal too wrinkled to straighen and pushed the side out with a hydraulic ram.

71 Bus back up as temp 3rd brake light. Someone had brazed
and fulled the hole for the brake light so when I bought the
decklid I thought it was a 58. I was a little bit stoked to say the
least when I realized it was a 55-57.

Yeah sorry about that I wish I could resize what I have already. I will edit them smaller next time.

Update: Nov 24 I am resizing the pics so they aren't so huge.

Wow! Shocked I wish I had your skills and confidence. That is WAY beyond my abilities. Good for you. You should feel proud of yourself for having the skills and courage to tackle a project as tough as that one. I'm cheering you on like I'm watching football! I like the commentary under each pic too it helps a lot and is very interesting. Good luck to you bro even though you don't need luck. Very Happy
