Nice!...a perfect blend of; nice stance, mostly stock appearance, tasteful upgrades of the interior and hidden steroids in the rear!...a very nice "sleeper" Smile

Hey, Glenn. Coming to Englishtown? I'd love to see that car in person.

After 23 years and over 450,000 miles, it was time to fix it up.

More than i ever want to know. Even doing all the work except for the body/paint and building the tranny it cost well over 5 figures. And that's not counting i already owned the car and the core for the 1904 engine.

Ruel #1... never, ever add up your repiepts. It will get you sick to the stomach.

Yes it is a 73 Type 181 (aka Thing) shroud. The only clearance it gives it easier access to the 4 studs that hold the carb to the manifold. The problem you had was between the "choke" side of the carb and the side of the shroud.

Lately i've worked on 2 other people's engines and had clearance problems with IDFs. The Thing shroud has the same outer profile as the normal Dog House shroud. I also had no problem when i has a stock shroud on.

Here's a picture from a previous engine in my car before i restored it.

The problem is the manifolds. I think they're shorter than the ones i have and the ones that used to be made. Don't ask me why, but the 2 carb kits were "EMPI" kits and i can't understand why people would sell kits that don't fit. I've been told that if you switch to a aftermarket 36hp shourd, it fits, but that's swapping one problem for another.

I don't have an answer... smashing the side of the shroud to clearance it is not a good solution. The Thing shroud has the same problem. The real problem is the intake manifolds. They're just crap.

In 1980 i had over 150,000 miles on thecar and the original seats were shot. After seeing what it would cost to recover them, i decided to get the Recaro KR seats i have not. 300,000 miles later the Recaros needed to be recovered. Since they were still in perfect condition, it was cheaper than replacing them (about $500).

For the past 24 years my buttocks has been happy with the decision to buy them.
