What are the differences between the thermostats for the different type of motors? I'm talking about the thermostats themselves, not the mounts and such. The reason I ask is that I have a thermostat that doesn't appear to be bad (it expands and contracts), but it is too big to fit into the mounting bracket.
Thanks. _________________ '65 Karmann Ghia 'vert

They vary in design according to the model and type of engine. Just make sure you're getting the right one for your motor and it'll fit perfectly on the bracket. |

STEVE22....When you say too big do you mean diameter or length?...If too big around/diameter then I don't know what's up....If you mean length, then it has been heated up/expanded outside/not mounted in a bracket....This will expand it to the point that it will not return to the orginal compressed state...If your going to test one in hot water/heat, AWAYS mount it in the bracket before heating....The sections of a good stat should lay together touching each other, minus any grit that might be between the folded sections....Even if it still expands/contracts in the over expanded state, it is still shot, as have never found a way to get it back to the orhinal compressed condition.... ....The Best....The Lizard.... _________________ 64 Sedan, 67 Sedan, 68 Hot Rod Bug, 71 Ghia Coupe, 1600 Roller Crank, 1776 110 Cam, 2161 Work in Progress, 9 roller parts Bugs, and a Ton of Parts!.... This tstat is too tall to fit into the bracket and still have room to expand. I'll try to post a pic this weekend. _________________ '65 Karmann Ghia 'vert
