I am lookin at all my options, and just wanted to run it passed you guys. Would I get lots of people pissed of if I welded it all up and went with a smooth dash.l Any suggestions will be considered.

Please don't do that. The Oval dash is the nicest of all the VW dashes. |

It's your car but I wouldn't ruin it. I would never do anything I couldn't reverse and make back stock. |

I totaly agree that the oval dash is the coolest. How can I get the center speaker hole back to stock? _________________ "Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go?" |

Yes. Or anywhere else that might have VW parts 4-sale. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

Don`t ruin the ovel dash any more than it has been. If you cant find the speaker sheet metel then get an ovel 3 gage rally set and have a body shop fill in the grill area for the the gage set up you want to run!! Don`t do what I did to my ovel this was back in 1978 and we did not care about VW`s like we do today. Here is a pic of how I destroed my ovel don`t do the same.

Oh yeah--I remember back then when we thought that was cool. You could never have enough guages or toggle switches. |

I agree. Installing the Motometer Rally Package will be the cheapest route to repairing that huge hole in the dash. And it'll look alot cooler than just the standard grill. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

Wow, such a large hole. What was the intention I wonder? I would get a dash clip myself, and repair it. But that must be alot of work. I love the look of my '57 dash. It's simple. |

I was a non-believer myself, but it can be done ! God only knows what the PO had in mind when he took the saw to this dash.....

Nahh, all pix are of the same car's dash Rakeyworth, a '56 I bumped into last summer up in your neck of the woods. Looked rough........ but solid as a rock with no front end hits, perfect pans and original rust free front fenders. Story goes, it was a desert race car project started in the 70's and never finished. Stored high and dry back East for about 30 years.
