The early 60s (1960-63) were colorful, exciting years for Volkswagen. This was due infact of the exiciting innovations in the automotive industry. VW followed this trend toward "color" by shipping their export model (Deluxe) with many parts in contrasting color. Runningboards, steering wheels & fender beading being the main examples. Gulf Blue, Pearl White, Turquise & Panama Beige were the more popular subjects.

Just get an 60-73 steering wheel and paint it that color. The chances of finding one that doesn't require restoration will be hard. Finding a common black one and painting it will be alot easier and the same end result.

Most of those colored wheels were 60 and 61. For 1962 they changed to Silver Beige. That particular one above is correct for a Turquoise car.
I have two of them and can dig them out to check condition if you REALLY want one...

If you decide to go that way for a Hydrate Green matching paint I've been using Dupont Centari in a" Spectramaster Green" GS 635A.

use Urethane paint, same type used for exterior car paint. Really durable and will last a long time. If you use the cheap stuff it may wear out alot sooner.
