|
|
I'm going to be cutting the dash for VDO gauges (speaker grille area) and was wondering what other people are using.
I have both a Dremel and a Rotozip. There really isn't any good metal cutting bits for the Dremel, or the Rotozip. Rotozip has a new bit for cutting steel, but none of the local hardware places seem to stock it. |

If you can use a hole saw. This only can happen if the center drill of the hole saw falls where there is metal. I also recommend replacing the center drill bit with a peice of steel rod. Drill the pilot hole by hand. Then put the rod into the hole. The rod wont cut the hole larger while drilling. The result is a much more accurate hole.
I used an air recipricating saw. The blade is very thin and will fit into the grooves of the speaker grill. You can adjust the speed, and it cuts very smoothly and accurately. I never use a rotozip or dremel on metal. I cant seem to get a good cut.

I use a dremel with good results. You just have to take your time . |

Just use a very very very slow speed. Most hole saw's on steel like 300 rpm or less and lube of sorts. _________________

those saws work wonders and you dont even have to use the blades made for em you can cut regular hacksaw blades for them. |
