After putting my tin back on and looking at my oil cooler from above (also reading the article about the oil cooler blow-out) I'm a bit concerned that I did not secure mine well enough.

Should the oil cooler be flush w/ the case? As you can see in the picture, the gaskets are visible through the crack between the case/cooler. Now I followed the Bently (5 ft lbs) spec using my torque wrench, howerver my wrench is pretty inaccurate at low ftlbs (it's really only accurate above 10).

Any suggesestion would be appreciated. Thanks

They're designed to be a cushion between the case and the cooler.

That's why only 5ft lbs. The seals would crush with any more.

What Shark said, and consider acquiring an inch-pound torque wrench for those low-torque fasteners (such as the sump plate nut: 9 ft-lb max. If over-tightened, will crack the cam bearing web in the crankcase).
