What a great job! I hope when the time comes for me to do mine, that it will look that good. _________________ My Bus Restoration Blog

Thanks for the comments. It's from West Coast Metric, grey canvas, not hemp. PITA to install! But it's DONE!

So...how long did it take to install? I just bought a '78 Westy (actually 2 '78 Westies ) and I have a new canvas as part of the deal. Sounds like the whole top has to come off...and then what? _________________ '71 bug, answers to "Clementine"

TWO Westies? Was it some sort of bulk deal?
It took me 4 days, but that's because I sanded down the top, applied a coat of splashguard then repeated the process. If I'd only replaced the tent, I think I could have done it in a day. I managed to get the top off by myself, but get some help. Two people is enough. We had the top back in place in about 5 min. Getting it all lined up and resecured was a challenge but this too would probably be easier with a second set of hands.. I took pics of the upper and lower corners before disassembly, then of the vinyl strips after I had the top off and flipped over. And one more set after the vinyl tack strips were off. It's straightforward enough once you see it. Tips: If the staples in the vinly are in good condition. gently pry the strip off. You can then just tap them back into place after the new tent is stapled into place. I secured the corners of the tent with long tie wraps to keep it out of the way when putting it back. Get a flex bit for your drill. Be patient when putting the bottom rails back on. They need to line up with the existing holes but you can't see them. Fun times! The search feature here provided tons of good information. I'd be happy to help out with any other questions you have, just PM me. It really isn't as bad as you'd think and oh so worth it!
