Has anybody ever used the rear body of a Ghia and made a trailer out of it? I am planning to make one out of a wrecked 67 Ghia. Looking for ideas on where to cut and what type/size of tubing to use for the frame, and pictures if anybody has any. |

I have seen one on Ebay that looked really nice. It was some guy from the east coast (Rhode Island, I think). It was white and looked sharp. That's the only one I've ever seen. Don't have any clue on how to create one.

I've seen them in the VW magazines, but that was in the mid-90's and from pictures of a car show in England. Just cut off the rear roof pillars and then the rockers where the door latch is. Fab some reinforcement for the front and enclose it. I am thinking of doing that from one of my parts cars. It would have a lot of room. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Remove the interior, remove the engine and trans, and buy a tow bar. Pull the entire ghia, then you will have lots of space to store stuff. |

Oh crap It just dawned on me that you're going to attempt this with a 1967 Ghia. You're going to have to fabricate a rear axle for this project. It would be better to find a wrecked 1968 or later Ghia that has an IRS rear end. Pull the transmission, but the outer axle stubs can remain in place. The one I want to make into a trailer is a 1970. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

No, but I saw one made into a couch. No kidding. Maybe it was more like a loveseat. |
That would be the creation of Emersonbiggens from Hastings, Nebraska.
Single passenger chair, it is. |

seems like the rear axle would be a piece of cake, just grab a length of channel and weld in the spindels, like they do for pop-up campers, the real fabrication would be in the suspension |

That's why an IRS rear end would be better. Zero fabrication for the rear suspension. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, 319 U.S. 624 (1943) |

Well the deal is done for the wrecked 67. This car must have been sweet before an old lady turned in front of it and hit it head-on with most of the damage concentrated on the driver's side. A very complete car with original red paint.
So what do I have to do to make this work? I was going to fab up a frame and make an axle, sort of like a utility trailer frame and sit the rear body clip on it. What do you think? Everyones help is very appreciated. Thanks!!! Joe |

to do this right you'll need to fab up the suspension to take wheels that match your 67.
find a 69 or later pan with rear suspension intact (if you were closer I'd give you one of mine). Then set the 67 rear clip on that.
You have 4-lug VW on the car and the trailer and the IRS suspension ICY mentioned. _________________ House of Ghia specializing in Karmann Ghia parts, service, and restorations. www.house-of-ghia.com |

Sounds like he and emerson need to get together to furnish the ultimate pad. |

Still needs some more work, but here is what I did with a rear clip that I found.
