They are technicaly shades and are static. They are meant to reduce the amount of direct sunlight the car gets. Not to close up so people cant see in. _________________

get them from the guy on eBay, because oz stockists costs the same off ebay anyway, and most aussies (usually all) are willing to ship internationally w/reasonable shipping rates, mainly out of necessity. _________________ 1961 Double Cab (Sealing Wax Red) |

Any outside visors yo buy from Aust. (although there is a guy making NICE repops of the VW of Australias accessory ones)...are reproductions. Weather fdeflectors = repops. But nice. Blinds...not reproductions. Just still being made!
The ones made there, and sold by the dealer on US ebay (in Australia are not reproductions, though. That's what's cool about them. They LOOk like the ones in the Aussie dealership accessory catalog, so I thought someone was ok'd to repop them. When I found out the name of the manufacturer (not a distributor) and talked to him, they actually ARE the same blinds, made the same way in the same factiry. That company supplied Ford, VW and other manufacturers in Australia with the blinds for their accessory lines. They kept making them for the aftermarket over there (people wstill use them in newer cars). Odd, because in the US they are just an old-fashioned item. So this is almost like getting NOS item...only NEw, without "shelf wear" or bent slats. I Put an "original"1958-64 Beetle one I saw (these new ones are "original", too - just new!), next to the new one I got, and they are exactly the same. They say they are made in the same ewelding jigs...and it looks like it's true. Very close! Squareback ones I got for a friend were about $375 retail, including shipping. (BIG items - they barely CAn go airmail). |

Actually they are just "old old fashioned" here. Car blinds have never fallen out of style in places like the middle East and North Africa and the Phillipines. Read that as hot places. I have even seen more than a handful of new Benz's around with blinds.
What is in high style...and an expensive option....is roll up or down rear window shades. VW had them on Passats stock (top end) and as an option for all else.

They also had these for rear window and the audi's had a power version. Ray |

I will try to find it for ya.
I bought my visor from the guy on ebay and it is almost exactly the same as an OG one. It has a slightly flattened profile compared to an OG item, but the build quality is superb. _________________ Jim in Sacto -

Yes they are made here in South Australia by the same people that made them in the day.
Only problemI have seen with the newer notchback ones is they have a 3rd upright support when my original 1964 as installed in 1964 only has 2 uprights and does look better for it.
I have even had 3 x T34 versions created that are now all in the USA. They were never offered back in the 1960's so technicaly they are not a reproduction but a new product and probably never to be repeated due to the severe bends required to make them!!
Make sure you purchase them in off white too as the white version is very bright white and may not suit you. My original one was painted in an off white back in the 1964.
Also specify 2 x uprights if your buying a notchback one. If your supplier wont sell you this option- email me and I will provide a price for you (but I don't want to start selling these as the postage is not cheap due to the size of them and I end up keeping them when people back out of the deal..) _________________ Aaron

COOL I JKNEW YOUR NAME LOOKED FAMILIAR. WHEN I WAS RESEARCHING THESE AT FIRST AND "CABLES.COM.AU" TOLD ME HE WAS THE MANUFACTURER, (IMPLIED- WHICH YOU KNOW HE ISN'T). WHEN I FINALLY DID FIND THE FACTORY, I WONDERED WHERE THE T3 GHIA DESIGN CAME FROM (THERE NEVER WERE VW ONES). THEN I SAW A FORUM ONLINE POSTED ABOUT 2002-3 BY YOU WHERE YOU MENTIONED YOU HAD HIM MAKE THAT MODEL UP. COOL. BUT THEY STILL MAKE THEM, AND IARE IN THE PRODUCT LINE. JUST TOO BIG TO BUY ONE AT A TIME, AND THEY WON'T GO AIRMAIL. THERE are a lot more than 3 now. the ones you bought in that first order are not the nly ones that have "ever" been made, though. I have personally seen a couple - they turned out cool. |
