They make me do this ->
Just thought that you might like to have a look...
Here is the Danagon before I installed the BFGs.

Neat. From the pictures I see one van morphed into another Danagain. That's awsome. _________________ "Use the SEARCH, Luke" But first visit the Vanagon FAQ!

Yeah, I thought that it was pretty funny that I happen to take the first picture when my wife was borrowing her friends burgandy Ford Windstar.
The Danagon has been our only running vehicle for this past year. Occationally a good friend (and we have a number of them) would loan us a vehicle to help with transportation issues (hence the burgandy Ford).
We have arived at the place where we really need a second vehicle and my wonderful wife said that she wanted a vanagon of her own... So, last week we ended up buying her the '90 Vanagon GL (automatic) you see in the background.
It is pretty funny that the two vans have the same paint scheme (burgandy with gray trim). |

Looking good!
Is that a Syncro or just a GL? I've been trying to get a set for my '88 but my tire guy is telling me that I'd have to lift it first.
If it's not a Syncro did you do any liftin'? Thanks. |

Agreed those are sweet wheels, I'm getting some as soon as I can find some 14-inch alloys...

Is yours a Carat? Those ride lower... I seem to remember at least one guy over on westfalia.org using the BFG's on a van with the stock springs. _________________ Tennessee Sombrero

Conveniently, I happen to have a set of 14" alloys in storage, from when I put on my SA Rhein's. We should talk... _________________ No need to bear the weight of your worries, you let them all fall away...

What is a set of nice 14 alloys really worth these days, anyways?

Good question. I've seen 'em from as little as $350, and as much as $500. Guess it depends on the condition of the wheels, and condition of the tires if they're mounted. _________________ No need to bear the weight of your worries, you let them all fall away...

It's not a Carat, it's just a '88 GL. I've heard that they lowered them after '87. I tried finding some pre '87 stock springs but to no avail. I put new shocks on it but it's still a little low, especially the front.
The BFG All Terrains would be perfect for Baja trips.

Looking good, man. Like others said, I like how the background vehicle switches from the burgandy Windstar to the burgandy Vanagon. Both look great, by the way. _________________ '84 Vanagon w/ Subaru 2.2 Swap

I checked Craigslist this morning and it's my lucky day-- picked up a set of 4 alloys in great shape from a gent in Portland. (Thanks Marsk!) They ran me $375 (plus $35 in gas) and that included a set of half-unworn BFG's for me to try out on the Westy. Can't wait!
You can get more on EBay but then you have to deal with all that EBay crap. Pheh! Craigslist rocks. _________________ Tennessee Sombrero

It is not Syncro, just an '87 GL. No lifting just stock. I have no clearance issues whatsoever.
I too love the way they fill up the wheel wells. As soon as I saw how these tires filled up the wheel wells on Slowesty's poptop (see: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=176822), it pushed me over the edge and I ordered them from America's Tires. |

I love the look too!
I only wonder what kind of driving you're typically doing. Seems like fuel hawgs and very noisy.
What do they sound like? Please report on it's impact to highway fuel economy after using them for awhile. |

I am pretty sensitive to sound, and noise was one of my concerns when I began considering these tires. I drive mainly on the road.
I would say that they do have a slight hum in normal driving situations. The hum get noticeably louder if you go over 65 mph, but I don't usually drive over 65.
They do make a real cool sound when you make a real sharp turn.
I keep pretty good mileage records, so I will let you know what kind of gas mileage I get with these. |

Well, according to the BF Goodrich website, the reason they added K/O to the name of these tires is because it is: "The all-terrain that KOs the competition."
In otherwords, they're a knock out!
I don't have the part number off-hand, but here is a link to their info page: http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/overview/all-terrain-t-a-ko/44.html
Hope this helps. |
