just sit back and watch the good ones die?...That is just stupid...

I tried to buy it back when it was last for sale at $12,000 but this current owner got it....and I do not feel like paying him $6000 extra because he f-ed with the thing.

...my best friend and I found that car original years back and I did own it already...but I do not care for standards so it was sold couple years back and I bought something I always wanted, an original delxue crotch cooler sunroof split. But because I did not keep it or do not like standards does not mean I or anyone else on here does not have the right to be upset when an extremely fine example of a car is (possibly) being getting ruined.

You are right though, if it gets f-ed up, it gets f-ed up nothing we can do...but that does not mean a bunch of us are not gonna at least bitch about it and maybe bring it to the attention of someone who wants a standard and could save the originality of the car.

What I find bizzarre is all these guys dumping $12Gs plus for a rat ride candiadate! You can pick up shitter splits for 1/3 of that to rat out with a better patina to em.

You missed my point, it was why would folks wanting to build a rat split spend $12,000?...you could buy a rat candidate for far cheaper then that.
Though most cars on the Samba are usually not cheap...and it is not the place usually to score huge deals usually take a look there is quite a few on here. But, if something cheap comes up it is gone in a second.

Splits are out there and reasonable you just have to get in the split community at talk to people at shows etc...the old timers with good stuff are NOT online. A lot of these old split guys have multiples or know where they are and usually they are beaters and cheap. I know of a couple plain jane beater splits that went quite cheap recently.

FYI we paid $5000 for this very $18,000 `51 standard about 4-5 years ago...found it on the net in a forsale classified elsewhere.

Mine is lowered and it's not ruined.
I know it wasn't the OG paint, I wrote that wrong.
That car was to nice to start primering the car and taken parts off of it. This car was done the same way

Absolutely true.... Networking off the beaten path is always the key to finding a reasonable deal. Most of the traditional mindset enthusiasts (both young and old) are also often careful about whom they sell to, there needs to be a (almost unspoken) connection between them and the potential buyer. Traditionalists are not interested in seeing a car get into the hands of someone whom intends to customize or change the integrity of the car from its originality in any way. Even so-called "purists" are neither rich nor arrogant, they just stand for and strongly support the idea of preservation, and aren't attention starved or interested in modern trends, they just want to see their car go to another custodian at a good home.

Yep, that's the same '51 standard. Randee acquired a '56 Deluxe Samba two weeks ago for a princely sum. Then he offered it on this web site. The owner owner the '51 traded Randee straight across. After driving the '51 for a week, Randee decided to sell it on to a buyer yesterday for $12k with no bumpers.
A little history on that particular '51. It was purchased from a Michigan man by Richard Shriver (2kabrios) a few years ago. Then Shriver sold it to Robert Munoz along with his '55 Kabriolett. When Randee posted the '56 Samba, Robert just had to have it and offered the trade.
You know all this stuff, but after 4 months you still cant figure out how to get me my 100.00 back????????//

That photo of Randee in the Split..

Headed to "town" (such as it is) just before the Fire Station, right?
I used to travel that road a LOT when I was in Sandy Eggo, Randee's shop, and "Dr. Decklid"s shop are at most a mile apart, on the same street...

The green car pictured was mine and I sold it to Ken around 2000. It was an actual `52 split crocth cooler hard top. The car was severely rolled before I bought it and I installed the 3 fold into her because the roof was so wasted. The car had a lot of rust and metal work done to it by the PO then left to rust. I bought it and cleaned it up, installed the 3 fold and painted it. It was done as a fun driver due to the large amount of roll over damage and incorrect parts on the car.
I traded a `69 Schwinn Pea Picker for the car, fixed it up a bit and painted it and sold it to Ken for about $9500 I recall.
