Ok, so today I drove out to the country to look at a '76 westy......when I arrived it was really a '72 sportsmobile (clueless owner). It has the cool chrome luggage rack, a BN4 (which I love), cargo nets under the dash, and many other cool items. Needs lotsa TLC and I'm sure Bessie would get jealous.

It may or may not run, (I didnt try-no battery) and the dude that owns it said, "my buddy left it here 4 years ago and said I could have it. I want it outta here." I hate 72's for the lack of an engine door, but I kind of want to save this bus!

I did search arround the Samba and there is little info on these vw sportsmobiles. Anyone know more? I know the company still is in business.

Any info appreciated!!!

peace

Any free bus is a good bus. And the 72 may not be the most desireable due to the lack of hatch, but IT'S STILL A BUS. Some guys love their 72's. I love my 70 even though it doesn't have disk brakes.

Sporties aren't that common, but that doesn't really make them desireable because the Westies are generally considered the highest quality campers. But they are still very useable campers with a nice layout. They had the big bed up top long before the US spec westy!

It's a free bus. What's not to like? It's a bus! and it's free! (Imagine I'm using the GEICO gecco voice.)
