Hello all. Can anyone explain the difference between a 66 and 67 outside door handle? I have a 66 but no handles and I would like to purchase the correct ones. Is there a difference between early and late 66 handles as well? Thank you in advance for the input.

The USA spec 1966 had the square button door handles until chassis 116463103 which was the switch over to the round button type.

The round button type was used through 1967. There were different round button type handles though.

If you are looking for handles for your 66, you need to ignore all 67 handles, they won't work for you.

If this is the case then why do people advertise 66/67 door handles? I have chassis 11683^^^^ so according to

I should have the round push button. How do you tell a 66 handle from a 67 handle round push button? Is it the flipper? and if so does anybody have a pic of each? Thanks

The '66 door handle resembles the '65 with the rectangular push button (this is actually the one on my '65, but you get the idea). The '67 has a smaller, round push button instead of rectangular. Be careful, though, not all rectangular push buttons are the same on the inside. The kind you want has a little oblong "paddle" on the inside of the door skin that pushes the lock mechanism up or down as you turn the key in the handle.

Your best bet is to check the part number on the backside of the handle. I am not 100% certain if '65 and '66 outside door handles are interchangeable (though I think they are, but I am certain I will be corrected if I am wrong). The part number for '65 handle is 111 (or 113) followed by 837 205C/206BE (and be sure the inside end of the tumbler has the oblong "paddle".) However, I am certain that you dont want the round push button type for your '66. That is a '67 only part.

Anyone that says their handle is for both 66 and 67 cars is completely ignorant. The handles look the same from the outside, but inside they are different.

The handle on the far right is a 67 handle. Note the paddle that acutates the lock points forward. Next to it, also with a round button is the late 66 handle and it's rear pointing paddle. 2nd from the left is the 65/early 66 square button handle that is interchangeable with the round button late 66 handle.

I need to know if someone knows how to modify the '67 door to accept '66 door handles ?
