I hope there's a coat rack in there for those chilly days, or maybe a fireplace.

I have an underdash evaporator for my Ghia, but it is a later model. Installation doesn't require cutting any holes for fans, etc.

I have posted pictures in the Gallery section-Parts/Accesories Ghia- but haven't been able to move them to this section. (The Grandkids haven't been over to show me how!)

I found this NOS unit while going through old HoG stuff in storage
I haven't been through it to see if all the parts are there, but it looks mostly complete, sans the compressor.

Someone has to buy the NOS unit and install it. What a great piece.

Here are two other pictures from VW A/C brochures. When the houseing is painted body color it really fits into the overall look!

The unit that I have does not have the central vent. The NOS HouseofGhia unit does have the central vent for more cooling pleasure.

The switches are also in a different orientation.

Earliest brochure showing Beetle unit and then my used Ghia unit.

Similar year vents. I would guess this was a 1966 brochure because of the central Beelte vent meaning it was still a 6 volt unit.

This came from a 73 coupe project that I recently began. The car needs a lot of work, but mechanically everything is sound. The car has sat for several months, but when I got it I’m pretty sure the AC unit was working fine. Given the condition of every bit of the interior, it was shocking that this item was in such good shape. There isn't a crack on the plastic under-dash piece and the vents are overall in good shape. It has one area of slight discoloration just underneath the ashtray, but I think it might clean up alright. This was a dealer installed options, still has the VW ID# on it, which didn't come out in photos bc of sticker's reflective background.

I should have done a more thorough inspection to check it out before I took it off. Luckily the wiring is still there, so it should be very quick and easy to hook it back up to inspect everything. I’ve labeled and carefully removed every part, and it looks to be a somewhat simple installation. Also, much of the discoloration disappeared with a damp rag. I have every item needed for this assembly, all in good shape.

Does anyone know if this is a AC/Heater unit? The two knobs say “FAN +/- “ and “Temp – Min-Max”

I haven't decided if I'm going to reinstall it later. I know that a painted dash isn’t OG , but I was kind of leaning away from putting that cheap plastic facing back on. Does anyone know how this plastic material would look painted to match the dash? I'm very skeptical, so maybe someone could put their two cents in about painting part to match? I might be willing to either sell or trade the thing. Still undecided. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to see more photos.

Was ever a/c an option for KGs before 1961?
factory option or aftermarket?

I have seen an early low light KG equipped with factory a/c unit before on the VW Trends Mag. I'll try to look for it so that I can scan and post that article.

Just want to share the a/c unit installed on lur KG vert.
