So my 1600 DP engine runs great when it's cold and after it has warmed up, but the time in between it runs like shit. I'm thinking the choke is opening too fast.
When I first take off, she purrs like a kitten. A mile down the road, she's acting like a damn fool . . . missing . . . hesitating . . . almost dying. Another mile down the road she's purring like a kitten again.
First of all, am I correct in thinking the choke is opening too fast? Second, does anyone know where I can find coils that will open the choke slower?

you can adjust the choke to open as fast or slowly as you wish. three screws on the right side, loosen them up and twist counter clockwise to tighten the choke (slower opening) and clockwise for the opposite. I have found them to be finicky, and take a little messing around with. Also, is your heat riser clear and getting hot? This is essential in winter. Are you using a stock air cleaner with a preheat tube? _________________ 1972 Standard Beetle
