Help and see my older posts about it.
It seems that, only new posts get answers.
My question:
How did you removed an EGR and/or an afterburner from a 1974 BW. |

The last link is an excellent help: It does show all my EGR and after burner parts.
About the exhaust: Mine is as of the first link: No U shape part. |

OK, we just have a terminology problem. The U shaped parts for '75-'78 are called afterburner elbows, and you are applying the term to something in your '74 EGR system.
So, you have '74 exhaust and '74 EGR, and I think your original question was how to remove the EGR. Since I don't have that system, I hesitate to answer. Any '72-'74 owners out there?? _________________ ~~~~~~~~

I was told about U shape parts, and had no idea whatsoever.
Now, I understand I confused with elbows seen on 1975 exhaust.
Where are the U's ? on the 1974 EGR ?
Indeed my stuff is a 1974 EGR, like on the pic,
except where the pic shows a 1973 EGR valve,
my EGR valve is sideways ( exhaust gaz ports are right and left ). |

twinfalls, tell me which # in the last link you think is a 73 EGR valve?
No EGR valves are pictured there. The EGR valve is in the side of each intake manifold. |

Oups, I thougt G. was a 1973 EGR valve....
Now, I think F. is a 1973 EGR valve.
The pic shows an F. at the left carb and another F at the right carb.
I know for sure, my 74 has one EGR valve, and it's not on either carb.
I bought it used in 1978 in Chicago, it's now in France.
Sorry, all those yearly changes, and cases ( Europe, US, California ) are soo confusing.

State of my removing.
After Burner.
I have removed the pump and attached stuff: Parts L.,W.,J.,M.,V.
Parts:http://www.bus-boys.com/emission6874.htm
This disconnected 3 hoses: V. left open, I. and E. both plugged air tight.
I have left: K. X. and the 4 air injectors. I think I will leave them as is. May be later in case I drop the engine.
Is it worth removing and/or plugging K. ?
EGR.
The filter O. is dead with a big hole from rust. I think the EGR valve has been disabled many years ago, but I do not know exactly what was done...They told me they disabled a valve because of an air leak...
One thing for sure, my engine runs OK.
I think I will continue dumping stuff starting from the fillter proceeding up to the carbs..plugging all hoses that get disconnected. While checking my engine stays OK.
My main concern is to rule out air leaks definitly, and not scew up vaccum needed on non EGR stuff. I see: distributor advance, brakes's servo,a flap in the right air filter to carb duct. Is there more ?
My bus is 200 miles away and it's too cold anyway, this will wait spring 2004. Meanwhile all your comments are welcome, and I still hope meeting a 74 EGR remover |
