I never can help but wonder why, after so much effort, someone will sell such a thing. I have considered getting a better van, but aside from the older style wiring, I find no good reason to get rid of our 85. Once you have upgraded the van, the rest is just cosmetic. Or van is basically an 85 - 92+ anyways now with the mods.

What I find interesting is the TDI is mated with the automatic trans. What changes would be needed so the automatic would run well and give the 30mpg just quoted by Andrew above.

With the cost of fuel today, and it is going to go higher the analists (sic) say means we all WILL (gas companies will comply with the analists) pay more. So the TDI is something to look at.

We love our two TDIs, btw, so I know they are a good engine.

Is that van running the full electronic controls and fly by wire?????

$33K for a 2WD Westy Shocked Shocked Looks like a 'no expense spared' sort of van but still...

You think for that price he'd fix the hole in the carpet.

I hope he gets his price. That'll just make all of ours worth more.

No matter what:

"It's "worth" what someone will pay for it."

True worth only comes for the utility you get from it.

Couldn't agree more. That's why I keep pouring $$ into mine and have no intention of selling it Very Happy .

I didn't know it was an Auto box. I don't know how that impacts MPG or if the gearing would even suitably match the power/torque/rpms of the TDI.

It has the electronic "drive by wire" pump on it so one would assume it is the full electronic version. That's what fastforward typically does. Certainly running them mechanically takes some inj pump knowhow, but not overly difficult to accomplish. Lots of info on the web regarding mechanical TDIs.

Third is 1:1. So I'd imagine that at 65 the rpm's are up there. Dunno if that's good for any diesel engine.

A beautiful van, but what's with the automatic?

Having owned a VW TDI, I would certainly want that sweet VW Manual tranny to have total control over my revs at all times!
