This is my '67 21 window walk-thru psuedo custom.
I spotted it while looking for a project vehicle on thesamba.com last fall.
Looking and reading the ad it was what I wanted to build exactly so I dove further into it...Calling the owner and then driving 500 miles two weeks later just to look and drive it. I'm not a rich car collector, but after seeing this bus I needed it. (even though I had a 71 westy already).
After meeting bankers and begging for a loan for a 35 yr old vehicle, I was able to make the current owner an offer on the bus...which was declined
2 weeks later it showed up on a famous auction site and just after it was cleared from my mind, it was on my mind again. dammit!
I bid on it and won for just slightly more than my original offer
I drove back down to NC in October to pick it up on ColumBUS Day of all holidays.
The drive that took 6 hours down, took 12 hours back in the bus, I was beat (and freezing) when I got home at midnight.
I needed to 'finish' the bus, as the former owner was not a real 'VW guy' and didn't detail it out. Both the vent wing latches were broken and one of the safari latches, missing pieces of deluxe trim, and some super clean detailing was needed.
It took alot of patience, time, and $ but I've been loving it ever since.
I placed in a few East Coast shows and got some colors pics in both VW magazines.
Here's the specs.
1967 21 window walk-thru yellow/white
1835cc MOFOCO w/ 34 ICT's and hydralic lifters
IRS conversion on the rear type 3 drums
wolfgang lowered spindles
EMPI 5's
Custom upholstry and booming custom system from Tweeter in NC
All original 12 volt accessories (clock etc) uncut dash
CHROME safaris and 6 Chrome Popouts,
Chrome wipers, vent wings, and assorted interior trim pieces
CHROME orig bumpers and overiders
I don't own a trailer so you know it's driven to the shows! |

Looks nice, man! But how is it pseudo-custom. It looks custom to me.

Man, I like your bus!! That is a great story too. What did the owner think when you were the winning bidder after making him an offer he declined only weeks before? Nice ride, nice story!! _________________ Bill

no, the only shows I've been to are bug outs 53,54....beaversprings #12 and maple grove superjam 03.....seemed like all of those were bad weather shows except beaver springs....At bug out 53 I parked in 3" of mud
but other than that its been fun!
It's a party on wheels every weekend for me and my friends |
