what do you guys think of the Hot-Spark BOS4V1 electronic ignition and distributor. Check out the link below for info on it.

I think it's a cheap copy of the Pertronix, which i'm not a big fan of.

It looks like a Bosch 009. I'm not a fan of them.

What engine/carb do you have?

That is a tough combo in a bus. Aren't you a 2.0L type 4?

2L stock type4 with weber progresive and 009 with points.I'm trying to get my van to stop falling on it's face during initial acceleration.

There are a few guys here that love that combo and are great tuners to get it all to work really well, but I am not. IMNSHO, that is the worst combo you could possibly have.

Ok, I got a dirt stock 71 bus. 1600 dual port. This thing ain't much money, hotter spark, 3 year replacement warranty. No adjustment, stable dwell. The add sells me and I'm going to "give it a whirl." Pun intended.

Thanks Splitty, Just finished giving the sales dept. a hard time about about some convolutions in my purchasing experience vis a vis Paypal or credit card, no biggie, needs improvement though.

I got it, I installed it, I like it a lot. I ran out of daylight and just put the dizzy about where it was before install. I'll time it when I get a chance. It started right up and ran strong. I did install a new coil, because as it turns out, the module needs a good one. That probably helped some as well.

I've been running a set for about 3 weeks. Seemed great at first during cold weather. When weather warm up a couple of weeks ago and engine warmed up I started getting ignition misses! Went through all the troubleshooting and testing! Coil is bosch blue with 3.6 ohms, with alt. puttin' out about 14 volts @ 3000 rpms is right at the hotspark limit for amps! Around 4! Went and installed the ballast resistor, thought it cured problem but then another problem arose, not enough spark with resistor! Hard to start cold and when warmed up wouldn't ignite mixture properly! Car would sputter and miss and slowly lose power! I would pull off road, bypass resistor, and car would instanly run great again! Dammit! What else!?! Then go down road a few miles and ignition would start missing again! Believe Me, when that happened, I pulled into shop, slapped timing light on it and You could tell it was spark miss, rev it up and would almost quit firing all together! I'm sending hotspark and see what they can do to help Me! And I was getting plenty of fuel, You could smell it in exhaust when missfiring but not when it ran right! I'm running spare 009 w/compufire for now but I really wand My svda back on there! 34pic3 runs so much better with it! Hopefully they'll help Me get it right! I've gotten real good swapping dizzy's! Guess it's a good thing to learn, although it is a pain in the ass to move plug wires 90 degrees 'cause the 009 doesn't match svda! I had major problems with mine. Bus would start rough and die after a few minutes. Giving it gas made it die quicker. After a little hassle I was able to send it back and they sent a new unit with the same old screws and plate from the original. Seems to work well now. I've heard a few people have problems with the first one they receive. Next time I'll spend the extra $30 and get a Compufire or Pertronix.
