What's a good, durable flat black spray paint to spruce up all my exterior black pieces such as the door handles and side mirrors? I've painted these things on other cars, but the spray can paint always scratches and chips off so easily. Can anybody recommend a good procedure and rattle can paint so I can do it myself? |

You could try using Krylon Fusion paint, or something designed specifically for plastic. I've had good results with Rustoleum made for plastic on the front grill, and on some plastic items on my other vehicle. Just find some random piece/part/whatever to test it on before hitting your own vehicle.

The mirrors are plastic, but other parts like the door handles appear to be metal. Is there another paint I should be using? |

Looks like it's Krylon, with the bake at 200 degrees for the handles. Thanks! |

I've used rustoleum black matte finish on bumper, grill, mirror, windshield wipers, and The stripe. With good results.
Here is a before and after. Not the best pictures.

Still not a great picture. The grills, bumper, and underskirt used to be three different colors. My mirrors were very washed out gray. |

I've done alot of body/paint work over the years. My own projects and for "chain" store body shops. You can have good results with rattle can stuff, usually a year or so will be the life of the finish.
Weather or not you go with proffesional grade spray gun poly-urethanes or cans, in real estate it's: location, location, location
In paint jobs it's: prep work, prep work, prep work
Check out the paint and body section on the forums, lotsa info over there. We are a bunch of backyard grease monkey hacks around here. _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |

I allways say don't be afraid to do it yourself. You don't have to get a high dollar gun. Get a $75 HVLP from Home Depot, borrow a freind's compressor and do it up mang.
I went to the local paint supply shop. They found the OG color: Vesuve Metalic Grey, mixed me up a pint. I sprayed my bumpers and grill to match the body, and sprayed the air intakes, lower grill and wiper arms deep black in the garage over a weekend. Primer, color, clear coat. Walah!

Gosh thanks guys.
Hope this inspires others to pick up a spray gun and have fun. _________________ 1987 Wolfsburg T25 still riding out. A bunch of other VW's passed on... |
