I have a fuel injection setup (late bus) that I'm cleaning up (painting, etc.) and I just finished cleaning up the intake air dist. in my parts cleaning tank.

The exterior has some light surface rust, but is fairly clean for 30 years old. The inside is pretty clean, but has a few surface rust areas as well. There are tubes inside this, and the baffled one is freed up, but appears to have a little buildup around the edges (not rust).

My questions are:
1) Should I have this acid dipped, and then powder coated?
or
2)Sand blast here at my place, and prime, paint, clearcoat?
or
3) Am I being to paranoid about the whole thing, and should I just sand it as need be for paint prep, and prime and paint?

Thanks for any tips! Cool

Tom

Are you referring to the air plenum with the 4 intake runners?

If so, just treat it like the rest of the engine tinwork.

will probably do the same. Acid dip first, then powdercoat.

Fuel rails cleaned up well. A little sanding on them, and they'll be real purdy!

I thought about the clearcoat there, but with emory cloth, followed by steel wool (coarse then fine), I still had some rust stains and pits. I may paint them the same color as the intake runners - greyish.

I've powdercoated several bus tins. The fuel rails look great in satin silver powdercoat, check out the other bus parts at the bottom of this page.
