This is not a 62 based on some of the information given and by close examination og the pictures.
1: Birch Green wasn't introduced until late '63.
2: The Hood is NOT '61-'62 as the owner stated, since the chrome beak wasn't introduced until '64.
3: The Rear Reflectors are post '64
4: Has a white needled speedo, should be Red.
5: Front Side Markers indicate '61-'63 as well as the Decklid and Script.
Based on the pictures and the info given, I would guess that this is either a late '63 or early 64 N Model. IMO

don't know if it's wrong or not but
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/paintcodest3.php
says birch green was introduced from Chassis 058 490 which is about July 62
but yep - deffo had the wrong chrome strip added on the hood, wrong rear reflectors, no mirror, wrong speedo but does have correct early high up side marker lights.
Looks to have correct early bumpers too without the bolt holes in them
early washer bottle
push button dash
wraparound dash.
don't think it's an N model but will cost you a bit to put right. _________________ Aircooled Apparel

I stand corrected on the color, thanks Charlie. But you are right that this car would take alot of time and money to restore back to it's original status. The Interior alone would need to be replaced, the hubcaps, the speedo, rear reflectors, chrome strip in the rubber for the front and rear glass, hood beak removed, the engine with the side-draft, etc...
I look at this car and it looks nice and thank my lucky stars that I truly scored with my Italian Notch and all the rare parts are complete and intact. |

My guess is a '63. To have a 62 sunroof is pretty rare. Obviously been put together by somebody who didn't know or have the patience for finding correct year parts. Really not uncommon, when I bought my 62 from the original owner, it had some later incorrect stuff on it, since replaced. Knowing the VIN on this will reveal it's true identity! _________________ '62 golfblau Typ 311 Limousine

So I just have to post on how cool it is too have 1500club friends close to me. I have been working on getting my '65 sunroof notch going for awhile and I had not been able to get the engine to idle. i was too proud to post that I needed help. Anyhow, Pedro comes over to pick up a part he needed and in 10 minutes later he has the car purring at idle. Thanks again Pete!!!!! _________________ '68 Lotus White T34 automatic sunroof
