I've found a seemingly good deal on a 1985 weekender Westy, but when running a VIN number CarFax check, it designates it as a Kombi. The owner say he doesnt' know of any conversions done on the van.

Does anyone have insights to why this might be? Are all Weekenders considered Kombi's?

My flaps lists my Vanagon's as Kombi models. I'm sure someone else can explain the history as to why. I wouldn't worry about it.

Make sure the VIN's are identical (on the van and title) and that the mileage is consistent with the info on the Carfax. I don't think the terms listed by insurance companies, Carfax or EPA are accurate anyway (Westfalia, Weekender, Wolfsburg, Carat, Hannover, etc.).

Too bad it doesn't show as a "Syncro". Those things seem to be worth their weight in gold these days.
