ok what does everyones buggies weigh.... just was wondering... i have heard 1200-1800 lbs just wondering where people get these estimates.... a few friends of mine weighed theirs on a grain scale... u know for corn and oats....... lol most live in calf. and dont know what the fuck i am talking about.... but anyways what does your buggy weigh?
also would be nice to here how you got it to that weight... removed weight from where? used lightweight parts??
i havent weighed mine yet but was hoping to get around the 1500lb range.... (needs wiring and engine to get on the road)
Thanks for any feedback was really bored and wanted to know.... |

The original bug weighed about 1800 lbs, so losing the body which weighs around 500 pounds, plus lighter seats, etc., and 1300 lbs isn't that hard. I've seen some as light as 1100 lbs with alloy wheels, racing seats, and lots of aluminum replacement parts.

wow thats great... maybe i could get to the 1300lb range.... i have the fiber/plastic seats with the vinyl covers... aluminum rims , aluminum gas tank..... the tank only holds about 6 gallons but that is what i had to work with... im hoping for at least 20mpg to get a total of a 100miles out of a tank....
maybe it will weigh less... any guesses? if it did weigh about 1200 pounds it will be one wild ride when i throw that 2332 engine in it... lol |

Hey there Mr. Bill.
I weighed mine at the public scales. It's 1940 lbs with a full tank .
It's a full length pan and 1 3/4" dia. roll cage. Pretty fat for a Buggy.

Mine weighed in at 1560 lbs with me, my tool bag, and a half tank of gas in it. I had a 28# steel bar bolted to the front beam to help keep more weight up front to help with braking. Didn't notice much difference after taking it off... so I didn't put it back on. I drove it to the refuse transfer station to get the official weight of 1390 lbs. VW engine and floorpan, Cragar S/S wheels, fiberglass seats, and a single hoop roll bar. No spare tire or back seat. But with those heavy Cragars up front, I can grab onto the front bumper and dead lift the front of the car and get the tires about 3 inches off the garage floor. I haven't tried to pull a wheelstand with it. Stock gearing, transaxle, and CV joints... mated up to a 1776cc with a 110 Engle cam and dual 44 IDF's. 295/50 R15 rear tires too. I'd hate to break a cv joint trying to outsmoke a Honda!
Aloha!

My race buggy weights 1195 lbs. without driver on the track scales certified to +/- 5lbs.

My street legal buggy weights 1325 lbs. without driver

You should know that most truck scaled intended to weight 80,000 lb. trucks will not be accurate when weighing something as light as a 1300 lb buggy _________________ 2017 Street Comp Champion - Thunder Valley Raceway Park - Noble, OK

Actually Dave truck scales are certified within 20#. Not as accurate as a track weight but close enough for me. Money changes hands according to weight so they are checked by the weights and measures people from your local gov't.

WE drive this buggy EVERYWHERE....Pismo, Big Bear, Baja, or wherever!!!
"What if it rains?' WE GET WET !!! Being a motorcycle touring rider, rain is just a "minor" inconvience... With the Manx, I don't have to put my feet down at a stop !!
