There's a lot of interest over here... plenty of 181s but not too many Trekker/182s as they sold in very small numbers and most succumbed to the killer rust. Unsold RHD cars were returned to VW, converted to LHD and sold on again - probably to you lot! So 182 are scarce...
Amongst others, I have two 182s which are both rolling projects and will need full restoration in the future. We do of course have a wider choice of model years to choose from and there are a number of pre '70 181s on the scene here and in Europe.
I spent the weekend under a military '72 fitting a narrowed beam, dropped spindles and adjustable rear springplates... along with a few other 181 builders over here i reckon!

What is your estimate of remaining RHD 82's in the UK and worldwide?
Any handle on that?
I'm also curious about current values of 182's.
Any info from you on this would be informative.
There has been an 182 listed in Classifieds from Oz for quite some time.

It's an ex-NATO vehicle and by the pics shown in the ad, appears to be in pretty decent shape. Two clues of this are pics of the engine compartment and the rear of the engine/pan.
I've been told by another Aussie, the owner/seller is quite a trader and seller of VW parts and cars in Oz.

He is asking $14,500 US = 7,364.04 GBP = 10,777.60 EUR = 17,680.13 AUD at today's exchange rate.
Do you think this vehicle is a fair value at the asking price given the rarity of 182's, or do you think it is overpriced?

Figures vary but there were 16 roadworthy 182s over here in UK at the last count and, other than my 2 scrappers, i know of 5 'projects'. Not sure about rest of world... a couple in Malaysia, certainly 5 in Hong Kong and 1 in Malta that i supplied some early (small indicator blister) front wings for. So not too many i guess!
The Oz one's certainly a nice 182 but expensive by UK prices. £4.5 - 5k would be more realistic for a sorted genuine rustfree 182 - but prices are creeping slowly up... |

What is "(small indicator blister)"?????
I think I know what you mean, but a clarification on the different forms of "English" usage may be in order.
btw, thanks for the UK streetable 182 numbers.
I have not read anywhere about the numbers of RHD 182's produced.
Any info on this figure?
Obviously, from what you said, several more were made than were delivered to buyers.
These RHD 182's and CB's fromn Oz really get my VW blood boiling, just iin case no one has noticed.
Rare, rare platforms indeed.

Here in SA there are reportedly about seven Things in total of which about five are actually 182s.
There is no regional club and there is no such vehicle on the the national registrations register so getting any exact figure is virtually impossible. |

Hi Steve,
In South-Africa I know of 5 roadworthy RHD 182s (includes mine) and one work in progress and I saw one RHD 182 in Mozambique not too long ago.

Top of fender/wing repeater/indicator base moulding/stamping/blister/area!
The fender on the left is '70 on, the other is up to '70. That is the only difference other than it weighs slightly more than the later fender!
A few years ago i had a single very crusty fender with an even smaller blister than this - supposedly from a late '68 which took the 'bullet' '66 beetle repeater/indicator. Anybody else seen or have one?

Here in the States we generally refer to them as turn signals.
