I'm about to put TMI mesh platinum interior panels in a titian red / beige grey 67 13 window and... I've got got some what appear to be mid to dark grey armrests that go on the interior panels. However, they look an odd color combo - have I got something wrong? WW lists platinum silver as the armrest color but what does this color look like?

Searching the classifieds reveals my mid / dark grey, como green and some sort of tan color. Whats right for a 67 deluxe?

Thanks,

Al

I am not 100% sure but they look like a lighter grey in these photos:

They should have studs sticking out of the back of the arm rests. If they don't, they are earlier arm rests for the beige grey interior.

Hopefully this is the correct shade - it looks like it. There are studs on the rear with brackets - all looks good. I suppose cost cutting made them all grey. Now that I read the WW color charts would the rear carpet have been grey instead of the more appealing oatmeal?

And this is the rear interior almost finished;

That's cool. If your can make those, someone needs to make 2/3rds middle seat arm rests!

Gosh I have everybody looking out for an arm rest pad for my middle seat. Everett, thank you for bringing it up here.

A buddy of mine saw a como pad at the Spring Meet in Washington last week. He went to pick it up and somebody snatched it. I understand from Greg (Campingbox) that the guy that got that pad had needed one for a long time. Greg and Clara said that they would look for one at the Classic for me. Bus people are the greatest.

Anyway, yes Anthony, I would buy a repop even if I had an OG one. Just so I could have a backup. The grey works perfect for me.

Al, OGVelvet has a '67 Velvet green deluxe with the platinum interior. If he doesn't chime in on the you might shoot him an email for a photo. I might see him next weekend at the Woodburn, Oregon show and I'll see if I can't get a photo. I seem to recall that the arm rest are platinum.

I’m digging out this really old thread since i haven’t found a good answer yet.

Can anyone supply me with a closeup and/or a desription of how the OG platinum silver armrests look like? In those pictures it seems as if the orig. intention of the designers was more to find a matching color hue to the sidepanels rather than trying to copy the metallic appearance of the side panel/upholstery material to a 100% match, leading to a rather dark beige result.

Understand what I mean?

As I am completing my interior and I only got hold on to the gray armrests, I need to color match those and I believe just trying to copy the color of the side panel’s material would be the wrong approach.

Same thing would probably apply to the vinyl edge profile of the drink tray.

Just imagine having metallic golden armrests - oooh! Porn style!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The Platinum interior vinyl 'fades' to gold/ copper/ bronze.
These pics are from a gallery search for platinum, but are not specifically of armrests.
The armrests were matched to the interior vinyl. They are not the grey for the mesh grey interior.

Armrests are currently available new in como green, dark grey (for mesh grey interior) and basalt.
I have vinyl dyed armrests, and the rubber trim for the bulkhead, for mesh platinum and aero papyrus interiors.
The lighting angle on some of these pics really show affects how the colour comes across in the pictures. The last picture really shows this.

Thanks Clara!

So am I right in assuming that the OG platinum silver of the armrest is not the same as the OG platinum of the interior vinyl? It’s more or less a color which harmonizes with it, correct?

I’m asking this because as most others out here, I had to opt for the TMI dresscovers etc. since ther is no alternative available. And we all know the TMI platinum is more of faded style.

My intention is to find a harmonizg beige gray tone to match the TMI fabrics if that is what the orginal designers intended to do. Do you agree? Are my assumptions correct?

I have never had an OG platinum silver armrest in my hands, but I believe it’s never been of this metallic appearance like the interior vinyl...

Yes, this last picture is a pretty good one. If I could only have some more close-ups of these armrests to validate my assumptions.

Well, you could look at period pics, and come back with what you find.

I'm thinking it was close to the upper vinyl colour, to the bulkhead rubber colour, to the armrest colour.
Yes the TMI vinyl matches the 'faded' to gold while originally the vinyl was more silvery. That brouchure pic does show some gold in it, though.

For Mesh Platinum (and aero papyrus) interiors, I have dyed the bulkhead rubber and armrests to a gold (or blue for aero p) colour to go with the vinyl.

to make them look like this:

The Mesh Grey armrest/ bulkhead rubber would look off with the Mesh P interior, IMO

I have three of these armrests in my garage. They are shiny gold, but look like they were covered in fabric by a prior owner.

Yes, that armrest has been recovered.

The originals are not a bright gold and don’t match the reproduction vinyl. They are more of a brownish gold.

Clara can offer new armrests vinyl dyed to a close to original color. She also makes full mesh platinum interior panel sets. Email her for details.
