You have defiantly achieved that 'Gnarly' look. Now you have to come up to Flagstaff to get the dirty look. I like the rack as well. _________________ Geology with a Syncro rocks!

thanks, Dog pilot, i was in payson last weekend camping on the rim.
i had the syncro in the nastiest, gnarliest, muddiest, rockiest road
i've ever been on. i had the rear differential locked in for about
10 miles. hey, a bunch of us are going camping this weekend up at
the white mountains, you are more than welcome to join us. |

I'd love to come. Unfortunatly, I have a spike in my foot until the end of the month. I have to keep an eye on the young one until he finishes finals next week. _________________ Geology with a Syncro rocks!

drat ! Thanks for letting me know.
love the emblem choice....so modest.
quick question, did you replace the alu. oil pan with a steel one? I noticed in your post, you were "gettin' after it" this weekend and I am often concern about it with mine. any issues?

225/75/16 kumho road venture MTKL 71. i like these tires better
than the bfg mud terrains i had on it. they fit ok, but you may have
to slightly grind the inner lip on your rear trailing arm. no fender
clearance problems. oh, also, the wheels are 7'' wide and have
a 37 et.

i used a 4000 quattro oil pan, the 3b pan is won't work. i have a skid
plate under most of the oil pan, but i've never come close to touching
it. my syncro has at least the same or more rear ground clearance
as it did with the waterboxer. |

mellow cat, what motor are putting in your vanagon, a 7A, right?
by the way, you'll need the oil pickup tube for the 4000 oil pan also. |

I have a 7A in there now. Early injecton, early Header(tone), etc. At any rate, I have about three years on that motor in there, so its coming out in the next week or so. I am going to spend a little time to change some thing, like the oil pan. Considering the Steel exhaust manifold from the later sedans and coupes, as underhood temp. is a bit higher than I would like, but the "5 cyl trumpet" is hard to beat.
Great to know about the pickup tube. A million thanks, I probably would have spaced it out.

Hey dude.....NICE wheels. I'm interested in getting 16-inch wheels so I can fit big brake kits in there. My current 15-inch South Africa steel wheels won't fit either Small Car's kit or Vancafe's.........bummer. The 15-inch alloy wheels WILL, however. Are you by chance running a larger brake kit? I was cruising the old Vanagon.com website and saw this tidbit of information in the tires and wheels section.
Quote from Vanagon.com in their wheels and tires section
VW lug nuts do not seat properly in a Mercedes-Benz wheel. VW has a 14mm ball taper and the Mercedes-Benz has a 12mm ball taper. Put some marking dye on the nut and see how much surface area is actually touching the ball taper of the nut.
Did you simply use Mercedes lug nuts? _________________ 1984 Wolfsburg 7-passenger stock sunroof
