I checked the trans fluid level on my 87 gl....was low. I added what I thought was the right amount but was unable to get a good measurement since the fluid smears up the dipstick tube after filling. I drove it the next day and noticed drops trailing behind me as I pulled out of my parking spot. I drove it for ~ 20 miles and rechecked the fluid level and it was right at the full mark. Is their such a thing as overfill blowoff on an autotrans? Or do I have a slow leak that hasn't showed up on my dipstick....yet?

also, I don't see any dripping when idling in park...does the autotrans "pressurize" when put into gear?

Yes you can overfill an automatic. The pan is designed to be a resevoir. If you over fill it, the ATF level gets up into the moving parts which froths it up. The air bubbles cause the level to get higher which aggravates the problem. There is an open vent that will allow the excess to escape.
