Any chance these could fit? I am guessing it would be really tight. I found a set of tires for $40. I have eyeballed a set of tires around here and it looks like it may work. My car is not lifted and these would go on stock Thing rims. Any chance these would work without rubbing?

thanks in advance,
Craig

27x8.5R14 Bridgestone Dueler AT
Stock Thing rims, no lift. No rubbing.

You're in luck. Keep in mind that a spare that size won't fit in the boot.

Hmmmm. A tire clearance question. Here is what I just went through...

Captain Spalding, your thoughts?

All I know for sure is a tight fit is REALLY BAD thing. Any rubbing while turning/braking, or if you hit a bump at high speed, and you may end up in a ditch or worse. Trust me on this one.

I'm looking for all terrain tires in this size (BF Goodrich or Bridgestone) but I don't find anything in France.
Here shops sell this kind of tires for rims of 15 inches (or superior dimensions).

I suppose that I will have to import a set of four or five tires.

Hi Pierre,

Before you order 5 tires, be advised that a 27 x 8.5 spare won't fit in the trunk. The biggest that will fit is 195/75R14. Of course, if you have one of those rear-mounted spare tire carriers - problem solved.

I order my tires in sets of five, just in case of infant mortality. Wink

I used to have 27x8.50x14 on white spokes 6x14 rims on my former 71 thing with quite an aggressive tread. It was perfect for the look, perfect for the rear (good traction), but it was rubbing just a little bit in the front when turning (while parking). I guess it was because the backspacing was different from stock wheels.

Hello Bob

And thank you for this information.
I will keep a 185R14 tire as spare in the front trunk.

I would like to buy a fifth tire in size 27x8.50R14 to keep it at home (in case of a serious damage on one of the 4 fitted on the car).

Regards

Anyone own/bought General Grabber AT2 27X8.5XR14? I'm looking for some new tires and have found very limited selection in 14 inch. Looks like several years ago there was a pretty good selection for a stock Thing.

Thanks

I just got a set of GenGrabbers. 205/75/15 on Cragars. I like the tire, I had them on my truck, and they seemed pretty good. Reasonable price as well.
