runningboard mats

Has anyone had luck with the mats sold by CIP supposedly from BBT? I bought a set recently and they were a total nightmare to put on OG runningboards. There's supposed to be a slot that goes over the backside of the runningboard. Not on these. Just a big F#$king block of rubber that I had to slice with a razor blade. Oh, I did it, but talk about SUCK! The NOS mexican ones I have fit WAY better, but didn't have the correct look. You'd think for nearly $100, you could get a decent product.

The WW mats fit OK, I've used some sand beige units on my '63 but those don't have the correct pattern for 50's cars. I was thinking about buying a set too. Maybe I'll hold off a while.

Dave from what I saw you definitely did a nice job of fitting them regardless of the work involved, hands of a craftsman there. As the saying goes, "if I had a nickel" for everything I had to macro and micro adjust (restored, nos, mint, especially repro, whatever) to fit during final assembly of a nice resto, I'd be rich.

Hard to say why they were designed the way they were, as I understand these they were re-reproduced from older tooling, maybe it was a cost tradeoff in tooling but you get 100% of the look. These would not be your average simple extrusion (like a split sawtooth running board mat) since that edge and the ends need to have a different features and perhaps post finishing steps. BBT Bob sometimes visits here and might be able to offer up some info, maybe just tool costs limits and such.

My suggestion is that if folks remain dissatisfied, definitely let Ricardo at SPU here know there is an improvement opportunity here, plus he can produce parts in EPDM which is basically better than rubber for several reasons. They would be expensive to ship but if you want it done right, for these pricey higher end restos, the price is worth it, and your time saved in aggravation is more than worth it too.

I need some for my 54 as it has no rubber on them at all
