Hello Sambsters,
I just did an engine swap into my 80 vanagon. I also had to put what, I believe, is a control module for the fuel injection. On the left-side firewall, there are two modules. One is a rectangular pack of what appears to be diodes, I'm assuming to fire the injectors. Just to the left of it, bolted to the firewall, there is a little module with two wiring harnesses plugged into it. I don't know which one goes where. One of the harnesses is pretty much all white wires, and the other has colored wire, I think some red wires included.
Does the harness with the white wires plug into the left or right side of the module. They are interchangeable, so I cannot figure out which goes where.
Thanks in Advance,

bump...
hoping someone with a 80-83 air-cooled can run out and look at their engine and give me a heads-up on this.

You seem to have a federal Vanagon with the resistors. I have a CA Vanagon, and the white set of wires go to the fuel injector side of the double relay - the right set of prongs, and the colored set goes on the left. I'm guessing the the white wires on a federal model go to the resistor pack. What you are describing is that you have both of them - resistor pack and a double relay. The CA engine does not use the resistor pack, and has a different wiring harness from the federal model. Bently can be your friend, but you need to figure out whether you're running a CA or a federal setup. The ECUs are different for each model and are not interchangeable with the wiring harnesses and/or the double relay vs. a single relay with a resistor pack. |

Thanks Terry,
That was correct. I have a couple of Chilton's manuals, but alas, I don't have them with me.
It's running like a top now.

Did it look like this?
Those are the series resisters. Double relay is to the left.

Yep, that's what I was talking about Randy. However, the module I needed information on is the one that is right to the left of the resistor pack. Half of it is cut off in the picture.

Terry,
It would appear that I have both a resistor pack, and a double relay. I have two harnesses plugging into the the relay, the white wire and red wire harnesses.
