My ball joints are bad, and searched the world over for new ones without tearing my wallet apart. $160 here $140 there plus $175 installation fee. Jeezus!!! Well I found a newer VW parts guy. You will see him on EBay selling THING parts. vwispwest.com His price listed on the site is also $35 each, but he sold them to me for $80 plus $8 for shipping. FUKENGROOVEN!!!
German parts!!!

Next is finding someone to install them. I really dont have the knowledge of doing them myself, and those that do say they dont want to do it either. LOL So that scared me a bit about getting my own hands dirty with the job. Any advise would be nice!!!!!!!!

So keep up on Ebay with Vwispwest, and if you see a deal in auction, just call him and he will match that price. Atleast he did for me.

Michael from Florida

You could take the trailing arms off and to a compentent front end/ mechanical shop with a 20 ton press.... if they are not VW savy make sure they know to press them in with the "notches" lined up front to back (the joints move in that direction)

Or I use a "large C-clamp" style specialty ball joint tool and do the type 1 joints on the car... you may be able to rent a Universal style version ( do a search for OTC tools on your favorite search site, I like www.37.com) of this tool and do it yourself or find a shop that has one and will do them on the car so you don't have to (or pay extra labor to) remove all the torsion arms ect..... Best of luck.....

My friend has the C-Clamp and told me he would lend it to me. However he being a VW enthusiast alot more than I have yet to be, has never had to change Ball joints he said. He explained how to do it, and it sure seemed like alot of work. He spoke about removing the spindles completely from the suspension. That is not necessary? Please send instuctions LOL Keifernet!
I wish I had instructions!!!!!!!!!!!! Before attempting this.

Excellent!!!!!!!!!!

THe ball joints are comming in on Monday UPS. I think I am in need of a tie rod too. Was getting the shakes this morning, and I think the left tie is lose. Will inspect it further this weekend. Are the tie rods the same as the Beetles? S.B. ??
