You mean crank end play? At 1/4" something major is wrong, and you'd best pull the motor ans see if you have something like a looseflyweheel that is readying to let go and do more damage. |

So you don't mean that you are trying to push and pull the pulley "in and out", but rather that you are turning the pulley in the direction of rotation and it takes a bit of turning before you feel resistance? That is normal. |

Or possibly the keyway in the crank and or the crank pulley is beat/worn? |

Are you adjusting the valves to resolve anoise issue, and then discovered this?If so, you discovered your noise.Keifernet may be right...pulley came loose, and it did in the keyway.Could be camshaft drive gear loose on the crank as well. |

Somthing is wrong with that! While it's very possible it is a loose pulley and wobbled out key way, what you may be seeing is actually an excessive amount of crankshaft endplay. Look carfully when you rock the crankshaft back and forth, the cam gears will normally push the crank front to back with a slight twisting motion in the crank. That will give you the impression that it's only the pulley moving side to side when in fact the crank is walking front to back. Hope this makes sense to you, let us know what you find. |
