Since I bought my Safare pop-top in 1985, I've put over 101K of the 178+K miles on it. In all those miles, I've never seen another Safare Custom Camper on the road or on The Samba. Laws of chance would suggest there are others out there.

If you have/had one, please sign in, describe your bus and say why you like/don't like it.

Would like info on the company also. Google no joy.

I know a fellow who has one down in Texas, and I must say that they're super cool - I really love the 2 bench rear area interior setup...
I just missed this one below on ebay a few years ago, but if anyone ever sees one with this 73-only paint scheme, with the original interior, let me know - that's one pretty high up on my list.

I know of one locally that is in the same shop restoring our 74 Westy. I'll see if I can snap a few photos of it today when I'm down there. It's there to get a few paint flaws touched up. It's really bad-ass, especially the funky interior.

Team Spatula - Those are my colors too. You say they are '73 only? That probably accounts for why I haven't been able to verify my paint M-code on any list, anywhere.

I've never seen an original interior as the PO had made some changes. Then, I made a lot of changes.

Mark - Thanks. I'm looking forward to the photos. Do me (Sambanistas) a favor, please, and take a lot of photos. This may be a rare opportunity.

Thanks, guys. I would like to fill in the Safare niche and this is a good start. Very Happy

That paint scheme was indeed 73 only, unless someone can show me otherwise. I've seen 2 busses of that color scheme in person, both with the lt blue pinstriping...1 was actually a bench seat 9 passenger bus - pretty cool...
post up some pics of yours, I really dig that color scheme.

In the small city where I used to live, I saw two others, among many, from time to time w/the same paint, but no pop-top. Where I am now, I've seen a Bay transporter & a double cab, that's it.

When I first saw my bus, I thought, OMG! Looks like something a sick cat did....last week. But, it was what I was looking for, a pop-top, so I ignored the color. It grew on me, though, and now I like it. As someone told me, "You can always spot it in the parking lot," and, they're too right.

For now, no photos. Been trying to decide on a digital camera.

This thing needs a big ol' hookah pipe in it...maybe there is somewhere in there. It looks like a 74 from the tags. I have NO idea how much of it is original, and it appears the original colour was a shade of orange/red. It did have the gas heater at some point, as the holes for the exhaust and heating duct hole in the firewall confirmed this.
Here are the photos as promised.

vw76westy: Negative on the holding tank. The guy probably put it on himself, something you could do on your bus too, if you really think you need one for the sink water. Considering the cost of installing such a tank and having to hook up a hose when you dump it at a disposal station, I think a bucket under the sink drain is cheaper, handier.

the holding tank on his bus is a perfect fit.it looks like like some aftermarket co in the 70's made one .
i did not see a brand name on it & i have not seen one sense but i do look under EVERY BUS i see & have asked at junk yards.

like you ive been looking for a saffari to see if maybe those came with a holding tank.& now that we have met that has been answered.

as for the bucket thats not self contained. that water would attrack wasp in the day & who knows what at night.

I got the bus a few days ago. I dont know what exact year it is. (Later model cause of the body shape). I havent taken pictures yet but ill try to tonight when i get off work and post them on here for you. It was on the bus when i got it. Catches all the water from the sink, is a long rectangularish looking thing (from side view). My Dad has had a better look at it than me haha.

Hey there I just picked up a Safare' 1974 and it has what appears to be a septic holding tank as well. I haven't totally checked everything out yet, I got the bus for almost nothing, and wanted to make a clean get-a-way before some one else showed up tp look at it and tell the guy what it was really worth. Anyways I know nothing about these so some info would be great, all the pamphelets and everything are in mine, just have to go thru everything.

Here is a picture, you can see more in my personal gallery.

Bugs, that is a sweet ass Safare' and you totally scored on the price. We need to have a Safare' meetup sometime Smile

Here are some shots of mine (74 too) (interior and exterior). Mine has a stock (to the conversion) holding tank as well. The documentation indicates that there is a 12 gallon potable and an 11 gallon gray water holding tank.

You can see that gray water holding tank under the bus on this shot...

Not sure if this a safare or not. There are no badges or decals any where except for a small HERR on windows up top. I just got this as well and it was bare inside.

Hope this isn't a dumb question, but if you don't ask, you'll never know.

What makes it a "safare"? I just put a hightop on mine, but
my cabinets are different.

I got a Safare'. No pictures yet, but the paint looks as if it were stirred with the ugly stick. It used to be red and white but it is now a beige colour where it used to be white and a brownish goldish colour where it was red. Sick I'll be putting it back to red and white pronto! Laughing Is there supposed to be a top bunk? I don't think mine has one... Confused I also gotta figure out how to fold the back seat back into sitting configuration again...

I think what makes it a Safare' is the High top and the interior configuration. But I could be wrong. Laughing
