Anyone done this?
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=498596
Wonder what would be involved? Just attaching the rails from the vanagon over?
If anyone has done this, I'm interested in your impressions.

Out of curiousity....

Have you already tried to contact the seller of the van that you linked to? He would seem to be a logical place to start.

I like the look, but think I would miss having the armrests.

I remember Brain at Smallcar talking about doing this last time I was at his shop. He said that he was working on some brackets.

I'm doing a SVX conversion, and I have the whole car to mess with...

So I put the nice, all leather, powered Svx seats in the van just to test fit
....and althought they look really cool, recline alot further, and are much easier to operate....and just plain better built.

My impressions are that they would be uncomfortable for long drives.
they sit too high, and the angle under your thigh is too steep for easy pedal operation...If you were over 6' tall and had disproportioately long legs they may be perfect.

...But for me, at 5' 8" with stumpy legs...no
The grey color is even a good match to the vanagon interior
..and I could care less about the loss of the armrests....never use em.

Ive have considered using some Nissan frontier arm rests on the doors with all the window and lock controls, they fit nice....just haven't been able to find them in my color yet

They look like they sit a bit high.

I mounted Ford Clubwagon seats for several reasons - softer on the butt than VW; and power slide/tilt/lumbar support and both armrests (I use mine a lot). They're great, though as mentioned are taller which led to other problems.
The driver's seat took a lot of bracket fabricating.

A writeup at www.griffco.ca/interest. if you're interested.

Thanks for that...
Done some interesting things to your vanagon. A tilt steering wheel! Like that dash cup holder too.

Goffoz, what was involved in putting in those seats? Swapping brackets, or?

Thanks

On the subject of armrests - my 84 Westfalia doesn't have them and they are really hard to find. Does anybody know of any from other models of van or car that fit the Westy seat? Thanks.

Brian did fabricate some brackets to make this work. They are welded to the OEM brackets to accept the Subaru seats.

Not sure if they are available off the shelf but they do have the know how to make it work.

Anyone looks into Previa?

They had some nice leather seat. Did not seem to be very high (engine below).
They had armrests.

I just spoke with Brian and he confirmed that he had some brackets made up. Mostly just to get rid of the seats that came out of his engine doner vehicles. It sounded like you could either bolt or weld them on, but we didn't get into too many of the details. I plan on paying him a visit to talk it over more and get all of the dirt on the install.

We talked about the seat height and he's been running Subaru seats in his van without any problems. He did say that if you were shorter it might not be the best option.

I'd be interested in hearing the comfort level on long trips. The two Subarus I have driven (rented Outback and Forrrester) made my back sing opera after two hours. I wonder if settign them up higher helps? (I'm 6'4" so shoul be ok there)

First they came for the seats, and I don’t have a seat, so I was silent

Then came the engines...
