The stock non-counterweighted crank starts flexing and pounding out the thrust bearing surfaces at around 4500 RPM's. If you never plan on turning it over 4500, then a stock crank is fine. An Engle W110 cam will pull to 5500 RPM, so I strongly recommend a counterweighted crank.

That makes perfect sense. I might as well utilize the entire power band that the cam is capable of producing.

Thanks Smile

John,

I'll second vwracerdave and matthew. If you plan on reving 5,000 or higher a counterbalanced crank is definitely the way to go. Also be sure and use high performance valve springs and get the rotating assembly balanced (including the clutch plate). You won't need dual springs but you WILL need springs w/ higher pressure than stock to prevent valve float. It's also a good idea to full flow the oil pump and add an external oil filter.
