How do I remove my OG doorcards without destroying them? Is there a special tool to get the panel clips out?

Hi Rich- I know that there is at least one special tool to do it. I've seen something that looks like a screw driver with a bent tip and a little "V" shaped end on it to get below the head of the clips. Not sure if that is the best tool for the job but I'd think it would work pretty well. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

Thanks Brendan, does it go between the clip and the door panel or the door panel and the door? _________________ 1954 Barndoor

I honestly don't know. I don't think I've ever seen one in use, just seen them somewhere before that I don't recall. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

I've had better luck going between the door and the door panel, you're less likely to mark the panel. In my experience, about 1/3 of the door clips will not be re-usable. The clips suck!

That's the tool I had in mind. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

That is what I used. Use a flat putty knife with a double layer of masking tape on the back side of the putty knife and slip that behind the door card first. Then use the little pry tool to pop the clip by prying the door card away from the putty knife. The putty knife will protect your paint.
The clips will often bend but you can straighten them with a pair of needle nose pliers.
The heads are stainless and will shine up like chrome on a buffer--if you care about that. |

Thanks Major Woody, made my own tool and used a screw driver as a pry, worked perfectly! _________________ 1954 Barndoor
