It's usually not necessary to use
glue on that weatherstrip. They are
secured by the lipped design of the
metal channel underneath, the base of
the rubber "snaps" into place.
OTOH, you do use adhesive/sealer
under the chrome piece on the outside. _________________ ****************************

On those you have to shove the weatherstripping into a c chanlles. Shove one side in first, and then use a small screwdriver to help get the other side shoved into the channel. If you use the weatherstripping, you shouldn't need much. As mentioned though, you should have some under the aluminum trim piece. |

I am talking about quarter windows not door seals. No C channel on a 74 quarter window. _________________ 74 Fat Chick |

Damn, I forgot they changed the design for 1972 and later.
Yes, use some sealant under the weatherstrip.
Sure can't hurt, aye? _________________ ****************************

Well damn!
I thought they all installed this way. I have a 71. Looks like you get to use the weatherstripping adhesive. Some people refer to it as gorilla snot. it is pretty stringy stuff, but seals and holds quite well. |

Guys I'm working on a 71 Super Beetle Convertible.
Trying to figure out as to how to attach the weatherstip into the C channel. It would be nice if the window was not there. Even when I roll it all the way down it still does not leave enough room to attach the weathersiping.
Is there a tool for this purpose.
Thanks, _________________ 1971 Super Beetle Convertible |

72-74 use the push on seal. I have pulled parts off a few of these cars. I am pretty sure the factory did not use adhesive to hold this seal on. Whenever I have pulled them off, they slide right off, no residue from adhesives. |

I just did the quarter window seal on my 74 coupe yesterday and used just a little 3M black glue at the very back to add a little security. Oh yeah! The seal goes on pretty easily especially if you lay it on the roof and let it get warm. _________________ Allen C.

Hi,
I have a 73 Ghia coup. Does the quarter windows open with a hinge and locking latch? |

You can find those photos that Nicholas referenced and more in the Oct 2017 thread Need help 1972 quarter window pop-outs where the entire rear quarter window assembly sequence for a 1974 model year Ghia is nicely documented by chipster. |

Hello: (sputNick-OLAS) based on your location and the Surfrider foundation decal; we are on lockdown here in Puerto Rico, so I have some free time and found your "thread, the picts from the Gallery of a 74 Ghia", simply GREAT, again they answered some questions i have about 1974 Ghia pop out rear quarter panel MOLDINGS; now I do know the 1974 Ghia only has the bottom molding trim, and NO top piece; the additional info about the location of the thread is also excellent; this truly helps guys like me who are living on Salvador Dali's fine line of "Have no fear of perfection - You'll never reach it" |
