Under $50!
I'm not sure of current value, but I think those sell in the thousands. Of dollars.
Anyway, here's one mounted on a Split Bug:
Lucky you. |

$50...was that the full price, or just the deposit?
Kudos to you. _________________ ( ⫏ ⫐ )

Hi,
I was wondering if there was any more info to be had on this. I was able to buy this clock for under 50.00 at a recent show.
It works, and as of 36 hours so far running, it is keeping time.
Removing the back, on the inside( not back cover) has 55 stamped in blue ink twice.
From what I gather, it mounts to the mirror stem, and it seems once mounted the 12 O'clock is not at top, but is positioned at the 11:00 position. Strange. Imagine the rotating the winder to be at three oclock position and you get the proper orientation
Here are some pic.s
At the bottom of the face, it says " KIENZLE 8 days" at the top of the clock it says VDO.
Thing looks like it has a speedo face; with all the speedo lines and all
What I think is neat, though it is hard to see in the last picture, is that the winder is a little gear with a lot of teeth......
These are hard to find?
I never saw one before, and think I got it for a good price.
Again, did not know how much they were worth when I bought it so it was a gamble.
Thanks for any info
I guess "8 days" means how long it will keep going with one complete winding? Only my geuss
Thanks for any input

MrMatt,
Here is a photo of mine.
I had mine restored in CA. Don't worry about the face of the clock being in the right place. It can spin around.
I have seen alot of them. Some say they were only made in 1953. But I have heard of date stamps up to 55 like yours.

The hands on that CA restored clock above are new as well as the face, you could really improve its authenticity by repainting them the correct ivory color along with the center cap. I'll never understand why a restorer will skip what is a simple thing to do to improve the presentation of such rare pieces.
You can do it yourself however by diassembling the clock. You'll need about 3 top coats delivered on a fine brush with a ball bearing size ball of paint on the tip, let it disperse, surface tension will contain the paint to the edges if you don't overdue it (and mask the clock face). Then the middle cap will resemble the domed effect as it was originally. I would of left the original face instead of replacing it unless it was really really bad, it affects the item's value.
For Mr. Matt, great score, things like this show up even in the smaller shows. Yes the winder knob is wrong, likely lost and the gear had a stem that likely fit or self threaded itself back into the winder stem shaft, does the job though.
I'm slowly working on a faithful reproduction (numbered/marked reproductions) on this clock, the castings are being revised again now, so I'll be able to provide the missing knob, and the several of these clocks out there which are missing their backs as well, thus improving their values. No promises on availability dates, these are "couture" items that get made slowly in between normal day to day things.
