Yeah , you're right. It's a Binz, but not a '59. It's a ribbed bumper '58. although the brazed on later blade may fool some people. |
looking through all the pics, your going to make gerson rich with all the metal you need

well about a month ago i scored a bunch of old bikes as im sure some of you seen in my gallery post, well i put one of them on craigslist and a guy came buy to look at it.as he noticed my vw's in the garage he said i know where a window bus is and i said really. he drew me a map and i went there this morning on a hunting mission and sure enough it was right where he said it was.after looking at it today and talking to the wife of the house i called back tonight to talk to the husband.both him,his wife and his son have all been to my skate shop and used to be costomers of mine and they all remembered me.after asking what he wanted to get out of it he said since i like it so much that i could just have it for FREE! i will be going out to start getting it ready to move in the morning.I call it the skunk bus because there was a dead skunk under it.super hyped to have a window bus...

Cool finds everyone!
Fascinating yard, more for the non-vw stuff though...
Had a few buses:
Some interesting bus parts? on non-buses…
Somebody out east should hit this guy up. PM me for the hook up details if you have the ways and means! |

ok, pm's all replied to. i'm guessing there's enough interest that several of those buses should move. i didn't talk money w/ the guy, i was there to pick up another vehicle for someone, didn't want to drive up the "interest" factor pricing.... i'm told he knows the 15 is worth something, he supposedly had a 21 that is now AWOL... |

ok, official post whore status here....
eddie (poptop) has the details. it sounds like he's in cahoots w/ paul (obus), and they're both fairly local to this place. so if you're interested in any of these, they're the guys to talk to. the reason? if i give the number and address out to everyone that pm's me, all at once, you have 10-20 callers and the owner of the yard thinks/knows he has gold. then no one buys them, and they rot more... no one wins.
if one guy calls, or better yet, shows up, then there's a better chance a deal will go down. eddie - drive a bus there and tell him you're looking for parts or a project bus. be polite, ask to look around. ask permission to take pics, etc. tell him you heard there were some splits and bays in there from me, the guy from iowa that was there thursday. walk around, see what he has. then see what he wants. he'll probably make you give a number. if you lowball him too much, he'll probably say FU, as i'm told he knows the 15window is quasi-desirable. acknowledge that and move on. if you're fair w/ him, he'll probably be fair w/ you. if you blow smoke up his ass, you'll walk away empty handed more than likely.
as for the condition of the buses, i've no clue. it was raining hard, i was running late, etc. plus, i had no room on the trailer, and no desire to parts hunt due to the above factors. i get the impression from two folks i've talked to about this place he won't sell parts, but i have no clue personally. (the fact that all those deluxe parts are still there suggests this is the case however.) i was there picking up a bus for another guy, so i never dealt w/ the owner personally. i'd hazard a semi-educated guess that the buyer of this bus, a quasi-local, got a good deal on it however. so there's hope.
i'm told he has an advanced degree in engineering of some sort and got sick of the rat-race and started this foreign car yard many moons ago. he's in his 60's?, was on the 'net when i showed up, and had headphones on. so i wouldn't play him for a fool. if you see some of the other stuff he has there, it'll blow your mind, he's obviously a car guy and quasi-plugged in to reality of prices these days.
all that said, w/ the right touch, you can probably get what you want at a good price. i doubt a great price, but suspect a good one can be had. you'll have the accent thing going for you, always a plus in my experience.
anyway, there's my .02.... now quit pm'ing me people...lol |
