Forgot, the hood was made using a spare tire area from a Dodge Omni. |
Beautiful! Is that a T3 or T4 engine? I see many more things than you mentioned Turn brakes, odd hi-beam switch, odd turn signal switch... Is that a spare fuel tank switch under the dash?

Now, I'm not familiar with turbo-charged engines... all my cars are naturally aspirated.. but is that a turbo in that thing? (2nd picture) _________________ '73 Thing

He said it's a 2.0L 914 engine. Thought you'd recognize those by now. _________________ 1974 Thing -- under the knife

Nope, that's naturally aspirated. The carbs are on the left and right - he's got an external air cleaner per carb, each sucking its own air from behind the car through the black tubes.
I think the blower in the engine compartment is for moving air over heat exchangers for providing cabin heat.

My T4 looks significantly different. That pancake tin requires a lot of cutting to get it to fit in the compartment, but it certainly looks clean. I've not played with T3's at all - I suppose that oil filler and dip stick configuration gives it away as not being a T3. _________________ VW-181 shirts and stickers.

The level under the dash is for the reserve valve from an old beetle, blower on the engine is for the heater from a bus, then the heat in sent up front thru the 2 in. square tubing that was used to lift the body. Steering column is from a early ghia so dimmer switch had to be used from early beetle. |
