I'm looking for information and parts to replace the J tubes in a set of 36 hp heat exchangers. It looks like the way they were built was to weld the head flange to the tube after the J tube is placed into the rear half of the control box. Does anyone have any other ideas on how to make this work, or know of a parts supplier for the bare tubes and 36 hp flanges? |

There are some here:

Does anybody know where the correct muffler installation clamps for a 36hp single tip can be found? Like these:

Yes, the tubes have to be slipped into the housing half, then the flanges welded on at the correct angle. I have build alignment jigs for this, but you can also use and engine out of the car and get everything lined up right.
Weld the flange to the pipe first (after slipping it through the box half) then weld the box half to the J pipe. _________________ John Henry

Can this be done with the after market “J” tubes for the later engines? I know they will be to long easily taken car of, and bigger dia. (that’s ok) but is the bind close to the same? |

I honestly don't know. I have often wondered that myself. I have the dimensions of my pipes (25/36hp) if someone can get the dimensions of the later, more common J pipes. They the ones that fit the 1600 engines.
I also have 40hp "stale air" pipes, they are the same as the 25/36hp, just 2" longer. _________________ John Henry
