Recently replaced the clutch master cylinder and need to replace the carpet that was soaked with brake fluid. But, I don't want carpet. This is the last thing that needs to be done to make it worthy of a maiden voyage (recently got it back from front suspension work).

I am at a loss, as I cannot find a vendor who might have a rubber mat that will cover the entire front floor area and between the pedestals of my '82 Westy. I can find rubber that fits the cargo area, but only carpet for front flooring. Anyone with suggestions for vendors?

Eventually, I want rubber throughout. I think it will be easier to maintain with a family and two dogs that will be using this camper.

Thanks!

VW used to offer rubber flooring for the front and passage way for the 8/85 to 7/87 Vanagons. NLA from VW, but they may still be around in wrecking yard Vanagons. I have never looked for them.... but I can now.

Bus Depot shows it but I am not sure they can get the front one:

I have and highly recommend these:

The stuff may spill on 'em, but it sure won't get through 'em.

Best!

Thank you for the links! These are the same rubber mats? I've spied these before, but I was really hoping I could find a one piece rubber mat that would cover the entire front like those that are available for the Transporters. I guess they just don't exist?

Thanks again for the links and recommendation!

Oh. And, Carl, if you can find one, I'll come and pick it up from you! Smile We're not far away.

For a stop gap - I bought some rubber mats from Wal-Mart that were designed to be used for the rear cargo space. I just made the appropriate templates and cut them out. Worked pretty good and should suffice for a while.

Haven't thought of that but after some thinking, I don't think so. Thanks for the idea!

After weighing all the options, I decided to replace with carpet. My wife didn't think just the 3 piece matting looked good enough, and we even thought about purchasing just parts of a Sew Fine carpet kid to fill in some gaps (i.e. Tunnel and firewall).

In the end, we were able to purchase just 5 parts of the Sew Fine 9 part front carpet kit. They sold us the two firewall, two floor, and tunnel for $150. The color will be slightly different from the existing pedestals and cargo area, but that is A-OK.

Thanks again for all the help! I sure wish someone made a one piece rubber floor mat....

"251 863 781C passageway rubber for Vanagon in black "

ive scoured the yards constantly trying to find these to no avail.
It was SOO easy to find the rubber mats for the baywindows, and I miss them now that im a vanagon owner, and have since I became one.

dogs and beaches + carpet is a nightmare.

A solid one piece rubber floor that I can drag out of the van, shake or hose off, then throw back in would be perrrrrfect.

too bad it seems like 90% of the vans came with carpet, its impossible to find the rubber ones.

my other issue is the ribbed flooring. the backing of mine was totally shot, and now I have a scrap carpet over the metal ribbed flooring, which feels and looks like crap. its hard to fabricate something to fit snugly over the floor without it warping over all of the ribs.
