|
|
I have a 67 deluxe that is ( I believe ) Sea Blue and white. The og interior is gone, but was the aero paprys color.
Doing a search, found they dont reproduce this color combo.
My question to the guru's is should I go with the Mesh Grey or Mesh Platinum from TMI ?? I saw one sea blue with the Mesh Platinum. (see pic below )
My goal for this bus is to enjoy and drive it. I need some type of interior for practicality ( sitting on springs suck ! ) and looks ( keeping the wife happy ). The interior shops in my area can not reproduce the OG aero paprys color and for the most part are super expensive for copying the colors of the TMI product. So what do you guys think?? I know its my bus, but I would like to know if there is a more "correct" color combo since OG is out. I am 50/50 on the colors right now.
Sorry for using the pics out of the gallery if these are yours, but they are helping me decide which color to choose.
Thanks for any input.

I'd suggest mesh platinum over mesh grey, only because you have a deluxe.

Thanks, I was also leaning towards the Mesh Platinum.
The bus is the same color as the first with the aero paprys and is OG paint.
I am at work and dont have access to the M plate right now. |

There is NO OG Aero Papyrus material to be had or being reproduced unfortunately. Instead of going to gray or platinum mesh, you do have another option. Lenny at West Coast Classics makes and uses this "Steel Blue" for any buses that require an Aero Papyrus replacement. I've seen a few Sea Blue deluxe buses with it and although it doesnt come very close to OG, its still an interesting color and in that odd steel Blue family.
What about your rubber front and cargo floor mats? Those are OG Blue as well for 67 Sea Blue Deluxe and are no longer made either. Something to consider if you decide to change color in the end.
See link below which will show you photos of "New" style from WCC compared to OG.

my 67 deluxe 247 002 215 had none of those interiors. it was sea blue and white .. i posted the m code plate numbers on here 3 years ago. it was built in july 66.. 13 window. go by the m code plate to make sure which interior you need. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

that is your VIN
the bottom line of the m-code plate has the color code.
I'd go with the mesh grey over the mesh platinum, if it's a blue bus and you aren't going with the aero papyrus interior, or some copy of it. Nearly impossible to find decent og seat covers for a blue/white deluxe. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Based on the M-code info above, Your OG interior was Aero Papyrus for sure. See the 72 above that I placed in bold. |

they used mesh grey on 65- 67 standards (all 65s actually) so you might find a pic of that interior on a blue bus in the gallery.
I have a titian red 66 deluxe, and i think the platinum interior is nice with the red, but i don't think it would go as well with the blue.
I mean, day- umn, the blue interior with the blue bus is very flash. bummer they aren't reproing it. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

Thanks Clara and all who gave their input. I agree, I too think the mesh grey will blend in better with the blue paint than the mesh platinum.
I have been going back and forth, but the wife gave the thumbs up for the mesh grey, so that put it in effect. Cant wait to get it ordered and installed. |

Just curious, what did you think of the WCC "new" style Blue that was shown in linked thread earlier? Its too far off for me and I'm assuming you thought the same if you're going Gray. |

For what it is worth a white (aero paprys) interior was a terrible idea. I'm sure it looked wondeful on the showroom floor but a deluxe bus is made for hauling people. My guess is the white didn't stay white for very long with a bunch of sticky fingered rug rats in and out of the bus. I had an aero paprys interior in my '66 21 window and that is exactly why I sold it - three kids and white interior don't go together. I was a nervous wreck evertime they go in the bus.
In retrospect looking at what the bus would be worth today and the rising costs of college tuition I should have kept the bus and sold the kids. |

I liked the color combo. It was the closest out there to being blue, and in my opinion, complimented the sea blue and white paint very nicely. The main reason I chose not to go with WCC is the Co$t !! I havent even painted the bus yet.
The TMI interior is going to get me by for awhile why I enjoy driving the bus and toting the family around on little trips. Driving on springs is not an option..... at least for the wife and kids.....
I am keeping my fingers crossed that by the time I go "full resto", there will be someone out there repop'ing the aero paprys.
I also agree with ThatVWGuy with the white interior. I have 2 rugrats with twins on the way, so I hear ya on the sticky, dirty, sloppy hands ! |

The seats in Greg's '66 truck are pretty bad. There is horsehair on them. Horsehair is not fun to sit on, gets old real quick esp if it's warm and I'm wearing shorts. It'll also work it's way down the back of my jeans somehow, really itchy. The blanket currently covering the crappy seats gets in the way of the seat belts. And it bunches up making it lumpy to sit on.
Other than that it's a nice truck, but those seats really suck. bla bla bla whine bitch complain. _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |
