I am trying to decide what to do about the pop-top on my '77 westy. The top is in excellent condition except for the color. It has, over the years, taken on the faded dingy look that most old pop-tops have. I am wanting to restore the top back to the original white but am not certain how to go about doing so. I have tried a ton of cleaners but have been unsuccessful. Any feedback on painting the top (ie. what type of paint to use). I was considering using Durabak (www.durabakbedliner.com) or a similar roll-on material but I dont think this would be the best way to go from a "purist" restoration standpoint (trying to do it right!). Any suggestions for getting my pop-top back to the original white would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Dale |

Get thee down to West Marine and have a look at what they sell to boat owners with the same problem. |

Hey Now, I painted the top on my oxn 78 Westy. Be aware that if you hane a lot of sanding to do, you will raies up very fine hairs of fiberglass. These were not so visible when the primer was shot on, yet became a problem in the (one stage) final coat.So if you want a nice look, be sure to prime, then re sand (wetsand) and then prime again. Then check the finish before final coat! Good Luck |
