its neither empi or speedwell
does it have any writing on the back of the spoke something like "FIV"?
Speedwell wheel has a flair at the end of the spokes when it goes to the wood

Hi, I’m very new here but I have been messing with Bugs for a long time. I have a question on an old steering wheel I bought 20 years ago for my first bug. It looks like one you have in your pile. IS this the same one and if so, what can you tell me about it?
By the way, nice wheel vwraymund!

hey welcome Superabee, the wheel in the box looks like a Grant style or Superior 500 wheel, but the one on the bottom of the batwing wheel is like yours a Formula Vee steering wheel, simulated wood-grained, satin-finish spokes.

Thanks for the welcome! I’ve been lurking for a while and finally found a topic I could get into. I’ve had this steering wheel for 20 years just sitting in my basement. I have always wondered who made it but could never find any info on it. I guess it’s not a particularly rare wheel but I have never been able to come across another in all my years of collecting parts. Who made this wheel? |
